What is Scrivener and Why Use It as a Professional Writer?

Scrivener is a popular word processing software marketed toward fiction writers, playwrights, and academic writers. The program is effective for professional nonfiction writers as well.

It places all of your writing and resources in one place. Nested folders and files let you organize multiple projects and house your notes separate from your drafts. Bookmarks can link your images and research materials. Also, it has templates, so you can go from the learning curve to an efficient workflow.

Problem: There aren’t many useful resources that show how to use Scrivener for more professional genres such as blogging, journalism, copywriting, and technical writing. What are the most effective ways to organize in Scrivener? How can you know Scrivener is worth the price and ditching Microsoft Word and Google Docs?

Solution: Templates are the best way to test if using Scrivener for your writing profession is best for you. Yet even if you don’t download someone else’s templates, with some initial effort to learn how to work in Scrivener, you can create templates for anything from tracking emails with client prospects to your social media campaigns to managing multiple blogs.
